I want to say that this was on a whim, but ever since I saw a preview for this movie, I've been itching for the chance to go. You see, I wanted to be Jane Goodall when I was growing up. Gorillas in the Mist was my dream. Whenever we were asked to do a report on an animal for a school project, I always chose gorillas. I just loved them that much. Unfortunately for me, reading about the machete carrying thugs in the African jungle terrified me right out of my dream. side note: I'm a wuss. So, I live vicariously through these movies.
I really thought that this was something Isla June would love as she's so into animals right now. Plus, she's pretty good at sitting and watching something she is interested in, and I thought that the big screen would be enthralling enough to keep her attention. I was hoping for at least 45 minutes to an hour, but realized we probably wouldn't make it the whole way through the movie. We went to a 12:20 showing and were 10 minutes late (I thought that would help to make sure we werent' waiting and getting antsy.)
Plus, I packed tons.of.snacks.
She did pretty good.
We made it through 30 whole minutes before she decided that the stairs were more interesting than the big screen. I was hoping to be able to give her a little bit of free reign, but unfortunately, there were other people in the theatre (oh, retirees who love an early afternoon matinee, you foil my plans). So, we snuck out quietly to maybe check out another movie (the ticket taker said that we could).
We did make it back into the theatre for the last 5 minutes.
I say, not too bad for a 22 month old. We had a blast.
|notice the snack leftovers on the face|
First movie experience? check.
|who is that big kid? seriously.|
maybe we'll go back next week to see the parts we missed.
