Isla June's 2nd Birthday

I think I was more excited about Isla June's impending birthday than she was.  Actually, I know I was.  I spent a lot of time talking to her about her birthday and what it means, plus asking her to tell me how old she was (the answer is always 6).  Staying up until 11:30 pm blowing up balloons and hanging streamers was the way I contained my excitement.  And the next morning my eyes flew open at 5:45 am.  craziness.

I surprised Isla June with a room full of balloons and streamers.  It was so magical for me.

She didn't know what to make of it.

crazy birthday hair.  love it.
After frolicking through the balloons, we watched as she discovered her presents in the living room.

She could have played basketball all morning.  Daddy picked out a great present.

And then it was party time.  For future reference, I don't think I'm going to ever have a 10 am party again.  It made for a very busy/hectic morning.  Thank goodness for many hands on deck.

Gramma Lee got her ready for her party.  And if you caught yesterday's post, you'd know that she insisted on wearing her green crocs (that mommy gave her for her birthday) instead of her cute white sandals.

And then it was time to head down to the pool and celebrate.

This was my first experience with streamers and balloons.  Success I say.
They make a big impact for just a small amount of money.
My "theme" was Beach Brunch.

Menu: egg cups // mini cinnamon rolls with blueberries //
yogurt bar: greek yogurt, strawberries, blueberries, walnuts //
chocolate and cream cheese cupcakes // Isla June's birthday cake // Izze drinks with fun striped straws

Also, as cute as the streamers a balloons were, it was so hard for me to use them as they felt like such a waste!  silly me, I know.  I just hate using throw away things.  So, to combat my guilt about the decorations, we used washable plates, bowls and forks.  And all of our drink ware was recyclable.
I can still sleep at night.  whew!

Daddy had to leave bright and early for work (he was gone before she got up :(  ), but made it back just in time for the party.  I'm so glad he got to do some celebrating with us.  He's such a wonderful man.

Have you ever had God send you a friend right when you needed it the most?
for me, that's Leah.  She and her girls have been such a blessing to us.  She keeps me sane.  ha!
She also made all of the cupcakes, Isla June's special cake and let me borrow all of her serving platters because ours are still in storage.
Thank you, Leah.  I hope I can try to repay you!

So many of our neighbors made it down for the party.  We have been so blessed to have them welcome our family with open arms into their little community.  We definitely liven the place up!

We brought the sand/water table down for the girls.  It was a hit with all three of them.
Also, this was the sand element of my beach theme.  ha!

After the girls were done eating, we couldn't keep them away from the water.
I love this picture of the girls just being little girls.  They are so precious.

We decided to get the cake done quick before Isla June launched herself into the water.

Despite everyone's enticing, Isla June was not going to blow that candle out!

Leah made her a gluten free 3 layer vanilla cake.  We made the blue/purple and red/pink layers by pureeing fresh blueberries and strawberries and just adding them to the batter.

It was beautiful.  And everyone who tried it loved it.
I might have had more than the birthday girl.  whoops.

And then it was time to go swimming.
Thankfully, Papa Kenny jumped right in so I didn't have to brave the cold water (Jeremy had gone back to work at this point).

They had so much fun.

All the guests sat around talking, eating and just enjoying the sweet little girls.  It was perfect weather and I think everyone was enjoying the company.  It was one of those days that fills up your heart.

After most of the guests left, Gramma Lee had her own present opening with the birthday girl.
She's really into dress up.....

After her nap (she crashed), she woke up to a room full of presents to open.  What blessings!

And later that night we went out to celebrate Father's Day with Jer and Papa Kenny

We didn't actually sit at a Hibachi table as I think that she would not handle the show/fire so well.  But, we watched from afar.
We put her in her party wear for the festivities.

These two.  Be still my heart.

It was the most perfect day. Happy Birthday, baby girl!

Because Daddy missed out on the morning celebrations, I put together a video for him.
I hope you enjoy it too!
