After much fretting, worrying, and planning, we had a little impromptu feeding session last night. I had decided to start with
bananas, but after more research and a little facebook chat with a friend,
Amy, I had decided to maybe start with Avocados, especially since they can just be mashed up instead of cooked. But, last night, Isla June was reaching for the sweet potatoes and daddy wanted to give her some. So, the one baked sweet potato left (and unflavored), organic-thanks to my assistant principal, was smashed up with a little breast milk and Isla June had her first "solid food" experience. She did pretty good. We've had some spoon practice as this is how she takes her probiotics daily, but some of it did make it's way back out.
I won't say that it helped her sleep at night as we had to let her fuss last night (we'll talk about THAT later), and she still woke up @ 4am. But, at least we are over the first hurdle.
This seems to be the best way for me to handle things that I am anxious about- Be spontaneous and see how it works out.
But now I have to figure out where to go from here....
Way to go, mama! Once you get over the hump of giving her something other than breastmilk (been there), it does become enjoyable, I promise!
ReplyDeleteGreat job! I agree with Amy, once you get over the first few times, it only gets better! I've breastfed two babies for one year (well almost a year for Robert) each and while they love it, they LOVEEE food! Plus, once you can give her a variety of stuff, she can fill up more which will help her sleep better at night. Btw, she is so adorable!!!
