1 Green Thing v.1

For so many people, the word "green" has negative connotations.  Maybe someone who professes to be "green" gave you a bad impression, or maybe it was a company or maybe it was a product.  Or maybe, change, big or small, is a tough thing.  Trust me, I know.  Change gets me every time.

With that in mind, I've decided to start a little weekly post on the blog showcasing "1 Green Thing" that you may or may not be doing, but is a simple step to take in order to help you, your family, your community and possibly your bank account.  Like I said, I'm going to focus on simple things that are easy to incorporate into your life.

Like most women, I love shopping.  The rush of finding exactly what you've been wanting.  love it.  But, I'm also a bargain hunter.  Recently, I read that it can take almost a 1/3 pound of synthetic fertilizers to grow enough cotton to make one t-shirt. yikes.  That's a little scary to me.
Luckily, consignment shopping brings all of my favorite things together in one store: bargains, shopping and living green.  Gotta love that.

On a recent trip to our local children's consignment store, Isla June and I grabbed quite a few things that we've been looking for.

and all of this was only 19 bucks!
The pig toy is something I've been on the lookout for ever since we saw it at Isla June's cousin's house this summer.  She's really into putting objects in a container.  Love this thing.  And, it came with working batteries. score.
Cost: $5.50
The jeans are baby Gap.  That's something I love about consignment.  Name Brand clothes at 1/3 the price.
Cost: $5.50
We couldn't leave the store without books (they are all brand new too!).  And a three for one special.  yes, please.
Cost: $7.00
add 2 bucks or so in tax and we were out the door.
Perfect.  Isla June is growing like a weed, and we've read and played with every toy in our house 500 times.  It's a simple, cost effective way to keep your family and your wallet happy.  And on the plus side, make a positive impact on the environment without really even trying.
gotta love that.
